Set up training groups

Training and races Updated July 2026

Once a club passes about thirty members, one notification for everybody stops working. The beginners get told about a threshold session they will not do, the fast group gets told about the couch-to-5k, and people start muting the app. Groups fix that.

Create your groups

  1. Open Training groups

On your club page, open Coach Hub, then Training groups. Coaches only.

  2. Add a group

Tap Add group and give it a name. Level names work well, so do days and squads: Beginners, Advanced, Tuesday track, Juniors.

Names have to be unique inside the club. If you reuse one, Konia tells you a group with that name already exists.

  3. Put them in a sensible order

Drag rows to reorder. That order is what everyone sees in the group picker afterwards, so putting your biggest group first saves the most taps over a season.

Start small. Two or three groups you will actually use beat eight precise ones you will not maintain. You can add more later, and members can be in several at once.

Add members, two ways

Which one you want depends on whether you are thinking about a group or about a person.

From the group

On the Training groups screen, tap the group. A brand new group says Tap to add members and takes you straight to the picker. A group that already has people says View N members and opens its member list, where Add members shows a searchable list of everyone not yet in it. This is the fast way to fill a group after you create it.

From the member

On the Members screen, open the menu on a member's row and choose Manage Groups. You get every group with checkboxes, so you can put one person in three groups in a single pass. This is the one you want when somebody moves up a level or joins mid-season.

Coaches can do the same thing from the Groups column in the Coach Web Portal, and a roster import can set groups for everyone at once from a spreadsheet column.

What changes once you have groups

  • Trainings get a Groups picker. Pick the groups a session is for and only those members are notified about it.
  • Feed posts can be aimed at specific groups, so only those members see the post. Coaches always see every post.
  • Messages are sent to a group. You need at least one group before you can send one, and the target group is fixed once the message goes out.
  • The trainings list gains a group filter, including a My groups option for members.
  • The members list gains a group filter, with a No group option that is the quickest way to spot people you forgot to sort.
  • The club calendar can be subscribed to as "my groups' trainings and all races" instead of everything.

The two things people get wrong:

1. Groups decide who is notified, not who can attend. A member outside the selected groups still sees the session and can still sign up. If you need a session restricted, groups are not the tool.

2. A training with no groups selected is for the whole club. Leaving the picker empty is not a mistake, it is how you say "everyone". Most clubs end up with a mix: whole-club long runs, group-specific interval sessions.

Renaming and deleting

Rename from the edit icon on the Training groups screen. Renaming is safe: everything that points at the group follows automatically, including calendar subscriptions.

Deleting removes the group from every training, every template, and every member who was in it. The trainings themselves are untouched, but any session that was aimed only at that group becomes a whole-club session, so it is worth a quick look at your upcoming list afterwards.
